Jake Sully now lives fully as a Na'vi and leads the Omaticaya clan alongside his wife, Neytiri. Story Overview
1. A New Threat Emerges
The Sully family's peaceful life is shattered when the RDA returns to Pandora on an even larger scale, intent on terraforming the moon into a new home for humanity. Among their forces are Recombinants—Na'vi avatars embedded with the memories of deceased soldiers, including a clone of Colonel Miles Quaritch.
Realizing that Quaritch and his squad are specifically hunting his family, Jake makes the painful decision to step down as Omaticaya chief and go into hiding to protect his people.
2. Refuge with the Reef Clan (Metkayina)
The Sully family flees to the distant oceanic archipelagos, seeking asylum with the Metkayina clan, led by Tonowari (Cliff Curtis) and his wife, Ronal (Kate Winslet).
Living by the ocean requires a complete adaptation. The Metkayina have distinct physical traits (wider tails and arms suited for swimming) and a culture deeply intertwined with marine life. Jake's children must learn to hold their breath, swim, and embrace the spiritual connection of the reef—a philosophy known as "The Way of Water".
3. Tensions and New Bonds
The Sully children struggle to fit in, facing prejudice for their human hybrid genetics. However, strong bonds begin to form:
- Lo'ak befriends Payakan, a outcast Tulkun (a giant, highly intelligent, whale-like creature).
- Kiri discovers a uniquely powerful and mysterious connection to Eywa through the ocean's ecosystem.
4. Ocean Confrontation
Quaritch relentlessly tracks Jake down by brutally hunting the sacred Tulkun to draw him out. When the children are captured, Jake, Neytiri, and the Metkayina warriors launch a fierce marine assault against the RDA's hunting vessel.
The violent battle comes at a devastating cost to the Sully family. Driven by grief and rage, Jake and Neytiri fight back, rescuing their remaining children and defeating Quaritch (though Spider secretly saves Quaritch from drowning).
5. Conclusion
After burying their child in the ocean according to Metkayina tradition, Jake realizes that running away cannot keep his family safe forever. The Sully family decides to make the reefs their permanent home and prepare for the ongoing war against the RDA.
