Story Overview
1. The Invasion of Tech & Woody's Return Two years after the events of the fourth film, 8-year-old Bonnie struggles to make friends at school. To help her socialize, her parents buy her a frog-themed children's tablet named Lilypad (or "Lily"). Lily quickly captivates Bonnie's attention. As screen time replaces hands-on playtime, the physical toys—now led by Jessie—feel increasingly neglected. Anxious about Bonnie's future, Jessie uses a walkie-talkie to reach out to Woody for advice. Concerned by how many toys are being abandoned due to tech, Woody decides to return and help.
2. Jessie's Journey & Unlikely Allies When Bonnie goes to a sleepover, she brings Lily while Jessie and Bullseye hide inside her bag. However, Bonnie's classmates mock her for still carrying toys, leading a self-conscious Bonnie to leave Jessie behind. Trying to make her way back, Jessie ends up at her original owner Emily's old home. There, she meets a new resident—an imaginative young girl named Blaze—alongside a squad of forgotten electronic devices (including a GPS receiver named Atlas and a potty-training device named Smarty Pants). At the farmhouse, Jessie discovers Emily's old time capsule, realizing the profound and lasting impact she left on Emily's life.
3. The Hi-Tech Buzz Army & Lily's Scheme Meanwhile at Bonnie's house, Lily views the traditional toys as obstacles to Bonnie's social growth and manipulates events to get them locked in the garage. At the same time, a stranded army of 50 rogue Hi-Tech Buzz Lightyear action figures arrives, mistaking Jessie's viral photo for a directive from "Star Command".
4. Resolution Woody and Buzz escape the garage and uncover Lily's flaw—her voice-recognition system. Teaming up with the old tech devices and the Hi-Tech Buzz army, they reason with Lily, helping her realize that screen addiction is actually leaving Bonnie isolated and stressed. Together, the toys and devices orchestrate a meeting between Bonnie and Blaze. Bonding over their shared love of imaginative play, Bonnie and Blaze become fast friends. With balance restored between technology and classic toys, Bonnie's room becomes a place of joy once more, allowing Woody to peacefully continue his journey.
