Premise & Plot Summary
The Backstory: Twenty years after witnessing her mother succumb to violent madness, Gemma (Amelia Eve) works as a dentist and lives in her childhood home with her young daughter, Maya (Island Austin). Unbeknownst to Gemma, her mother was not mentally ill, but was tormented by malevolent entities from The Further while trying to shield her daughter.
The Discovery: Gemma begins experiencing terrifying nightmares that blur into her waking reality. After a disturbing incident at work, she slips into The Further and learns she possesses a rare power: she functions as a "courier," capable of physically bringing objects and spirits back into the living world.
The Threat: A sinister demon named Cyrus (Sam Spruell) targets Gemma to exploit her abilities. Aided by three elderly acolytes, Cyrus aims to breach the barrier between realms, unleashing malevolent souls into the mortal world.
The Fight for Survival: Joined by her boyfriend Nick (Brandon Perea) and a medium named Claire (Maisie Richardson-Sellers), Gemma seeks guidance from the spirit of Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye). As Cyrus targets Maya to force Gemma's submission, Gemma must confront her family's past trauma and master her connection to The Further before the dead spill out into the realm of the living.
